Safety Driving Tips for New Year’s Eve

The holiday season is the time of the year when everyone relaxes and unwinds, meets their friends and family members and have a merry time. But when it comes to New Year’s Eve, many people like to head out and see the fireworks, party on the road and get wild.

Having fun does not mean you leave out your responsibilities as a law abiding citizen and chuck your driving skills away out the window. Statistically, there is an increase in the number of road accidents by 12% in December all because of Christmas or New Year’s festivities.

Here are some tips for you to have an awesome time on New Year’s Eve and come back safely if you hit the road:

Stay In

New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to be you out there with all the crazy people outside screaming their lungs out when you can have an amazing time inside. Host a party or if you plan on going to a friend’s party, then spend the night there. Alternately, you can also have your friends stay over at your place for their own safety as well. Most people pass out after drinking anyway, so it’s more likely they will stay over. If you are really close to your friend then bring in your extra pillow or blanket in advance so that you can sleep on the floor, sofa or anywhere you get comfortable. This will ensure that you don’t get involved in any road accidents and even protect you from other drunk drivers on the road.

Call a Cab Service

If you don’t have any plans of staying over and are too drunk to even hold the car keys properly then its best to just call a cab/taxi. Nowadays, you have everything at the tap of your smartphone, so you can easily call any Uber driver to come pick you up and drop you off at home. Alternately, you can do the same for your drunk friends and send them back safely to their home.

Be the Designated Driver

If you are out with your friends and know that you are the most responsible out of the whole bunch then it doesn’t hurt to be the designated driver. It doesn’t matter whose car it is, but as long as you are the sober one that can drive everyone (including yourself) safely back home then that is what matters at the end of the day. You have to wake up in the morning and feel the new year sunshine and that can only be possible if you drive safely the night before.

Know When to Stop

It’s hard to take a glass and stop especially when you are at a party. But limit your alcohol intake, so that you don’t end up passed out or do something to embarrass yourself in front of others. Your new year’s start should not be of embarrassing photos circulating around at a party or worse yet in a road accident in the news paper. As harsh as it sounds but drunk driving is no joke.
